John C Wright is an unapologetic bigot

(Posted because years from now, I might wonder why John C Wright is on my list of "avoid at all costs" authors.)
Shortly after L. Jagi Lamplighter's racefail, people discovered a rant by her husband, John C Wright. He's a sf/f author published by TOR. He's also a racist (more), sexist, Islamaphobic (more), homophobe who is desperately in love with the sound of his own voice. He thinks Obama wants to kill us all, Catholicism is logical, and his books being shelved next to Susan Wright's "bondage fiction" is a conspiracy.
Responses since this idiocy broke have been by turns amusing and impressively thoughtful.
His wiki entry is being revised constantly.
His books are tagged with "bigotry" on amazon.
Hal Duncan's Open Letter
Catherynne M Valente's Letter
There are some hilarious threads in Karnythia's lj

Date: 2009-08-16 04:42 pm (UTC)PS I emailed tor at questions@tor.com about this, but can you think of a better way to contact them and complain? I'm pretty tired of them publishing bigots. I know they can't control their authors, but...eugh!

Date: 2009-08-16 06:28 pm (UTC)Further ps: have you read this particular gem of an entry?
"the sexual revolution led to depravity and child-murder"
"Rock and roll music, on the other hand, is something like the banging of trashcan lids together, hooting and shouting of a band of monkeys, so women with tattoos in hotpants can gyrate for their prospective mates of the evening. No one leads. There are no real dance moves: merely hopping up and down in one spot. The dance partners do not even need to touch each other, or, for that matter, be on the same part of the dance floor. The boys (they are not men) ogle their partners, perhaps hoping to see if her hooters will bounce out of her braless tanktop. The music is loud, the lights are dark yet dazzling, and there are no flowers. There is no champagne."
"our [Catholic?] women are fertile, their rounded breasts engorged with milk, their nubile & callipygious hips able to bear children, whereas pagan women are mannequins, female in name only, barren"
etc. It's like his brain is filled with thousands of vomiting maggots.

"The most erotic experience in life is the copulation between a man and wife when they are trying to get pregnant. You light the candles, you pour the wine, the tear the bridal veil away, you carry her over the threshold like a Sabine woman (it is sexier if she kicks her legs) and you set down to the pragmatic business of baby-making. "
There is nothing kinky about this. Clearly.

Date: 2009-08-16 07:36 pm (UTC)There was no rape and no abuse before the Sexual Revolution.
"The whole sexual revolution promised the fairer sex that as a matter of equality, of equal stature with men, they should act like harlots, have sex out of marriage, approve of pornography, and kill any of their own children in the womb whose life might prove inconvenient to them. This strips away the normal protections society evolved to shield women from male sexual predation, or even unwanted attentions, it put women in situations where it was easier to rape them"
"men can rape women and women cannot rape men"
He has also somehow "never heard of" the works of Connie Willis, Lois McMaster Bujold, Catherine Asaro, Elizabeth Moon, Vonda N. McIntyre, Nicola Griffith, Elizabeth Ann Scarborough, Pat Murphy, or Alexei Panshin. What do all but one of those names have in common? Gosh, I just can't put my finger on it....whatever could it be?
Hates on Starbuck "not...because the pilot was female, merely because she was unfeminine."

Date: 2009-08-17 01:32 am (UTC)Also, he'd read one McIntyre book but "never heard of" the other on the list. I also like how he read _The Dispossessed_ but somehow missed all the explanations of how the anarchists did, in fact, distribute goods and services. Oh wait, I forgot, anything he doesn't believe in must not exist (e.g. rape prior to the sexual revolution).

Date: 2009-08-17 02:17 am (UTC)I mean, seriously, at this point he's got to be messing with us. Right? RIGHT?
Also, to add a delectable cherry to the sundae of crazypants, he talks about his internet flame wars with his priest. And his priest gives him, like internet flame war advice. Apparently.
