The medical knowledge on this show is astoundingly horrible. I can bring myself to handwave a lot of the physics--who knows what tech they might have invented, and how exactly it works. But Dr.Crusher has such a complete lack of curiosity about any of the alien races they encounter, even the ones where the Enterprise makes first contact. I just watched an episode (Symbiosis, with the junkie planet and the dealer planet) wherein she meets a *completely new species* and waves her tricorder of it. Then, when they say they're suffering from a plague, she says she can find no contagion--even though mere moments ago she said she didn't understand their physiology. So how does she know what counts as a contagion and what doesn't? And *then* she watches the new alien life forms take a powerful medication in her presence. She doesn't analyze the meds, or scan the aliens while they're taking them, oh no. She just watches them. Apparently all she needs is the naked eye! How special for her.
OH THE ANNOYANCE.
